Crispin specialises in hand-thrown stoneware and porcelain. He gained his BA Hons from West Surrey College of Art and Design (University for the Creative Arts - Farnham) and was taught by Sebastian Blackie, Takashi Yasuda and John Maltby. He moved to Cumbria and worked at the Cumbria College of Art with Jim Malone and Mike Dodd and also completed his Cert Ed (FE) at Preston Polytechnic. After moving to Lancashire to work at the University of Central Lancashire he started making again and set up Gilbert Garage Pottery in Preston about eight years ago. He completed his MA in Ceramics in the School of Art, Design and Performance at Uclan in January 2013.

A further move to work at the University of Derby has involved the setting up a new pottery. Iver House Pottery is now nearly complete and operating.
